The throne of Alaafin is a majestic one, historically significant to the Yoruba race. Without a doubt, all the former occupants of this exalted throne have been men of great stature and distinction. The immediate past king, Oba Dr. Alaafin Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda ADEYEMI III, elevated it to even greater heights. He was a walking encyclopedia of history.
I had a personal encounter with him in 1998 at his palace as one of the delegates of Zone D students’ leadership in Southwest Nigeria. He took us on a historical tour for hours, never repeating himself. The highlight of the visit was seeing Baba, the palace tortoise, which had been there for over three centuries.
Filling such a vacuum is an onerous task. Before the advent of Islam and Christianity, Ifa oracle had always guided our forefathers. Ifa does not discriminate and has been trusted to provide divine direction in times of uncertainty. Those who worship Ifa are expected to be upright and free of ulterior motives.

Coincidentally, the new Alaafin is a childhood friend from Baptist High School, Saki. By a twist of fate, our paths crossed again in the United Kingdom, where we even shared a room in Portsmouth.
I can categorically say that the new Iku Baba Yeye is a generous, knowledgeable, courageous, and focused leader. He is well-versed in tradition and committed to upholding the tenets of Omoluabi, which define the Yoruba race.
His quest for excellence is unparalleled. This drive led him to obtain P.Eng., MSc in Mechanical Engineering, and PMP certification. As an accomplished project manager, he is well-equipped for leadership. His exposure, knowledge, and passion for innovation will greatly benefit the Alaafin’s stool. With him as the Alaafin of Oyo, the Yoruba race can rejoice, knowing that such a forward-thinking and highly qualified man is our king.
He is a king with great family values, and his Queen, Olori Wumi OWOADE, complements him beautifully. This new era is indeed one to behold for all Yorubas worldwide.
