Why Sit Here Till We Die: A Clarion Call for Oke Ogun Unity

I have watched with keen interest the media space in recent times as the race for Agodi Government House in 2027 begins to gather momentum. However, it is disheartening to witness the increasing wave of cyberbullying targeted at a prospective candidate from our region. The hostility towards Oke Ogun is no longer hidden; some openly declare that if you are not from their region, you should forget about contesting. What a shame!

This situation reminds me of the story of the four lepers in 2 Kings 7. They were outcasts, rejected by society, and left to their fate at the city gate. Samaria was under siege, famine ravaged the land, and hope seemed lost. But rather than sit in despair, the lepers asked themselves a profound question:

“Why sit we here till we die?”

They realized that doing nothing meant certain death, but taking action—regardless of the risks—offered a chance at survival and change. Their bold decision to move forward led to an unexpected miracle: they discovered that the enemy had fled, leaving behind an abundance of resources that saved their entire city.

Now, I ask us all:

Why should we sit and watch as others seek to diminish our worth?

Should we fold our hands while they continue to demoralize us?

Should we remain silent and allow ourselves to be pushed into irrelevance?

Even more troubling is the fact that some of our own people have joined in this cyberbullying, amplifying the voices that seek to divide us. Oh, what a shame! History has shown that no region or people rise through division and self-sabotage. If we must stand a chance in this political contest, we must stand together. We must resist external intimidation, reject internal betrayal, and speak with one voice.

As it is being done to one of us, it will inevitably extend to other prospective candidates from Oke Ogun. Today, it is one person facing the attacks; tomorrow, it could be another. If we do not put an end to this trend now, we will be setting a dangerous precedent that will haunt us for years to come.

The lepers in the Bible did not wait for salvation to come to them; they took a step of faith and changed the course of history. In the same vein, we must rise above fear, disunity, and intimidation. Our future is in our hands, and if we fail to take action, we will have no one but ourselves to blame.

It is time to stand in unison.
It is time to silence those who seek to divide us.
It is time to forge ahead with courage and determination.

If we must win, we must stand together!
