The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in conjunction with the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB) is set to train teachers of Mathematics and Science subjects across the 16 Local Governments in the State.

The training tagged “Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education (SMASE)” has been approved by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as part of the strategic developmental strides in the State’s educational sector, aimed at equipping teachers with the required training for optimum classroom performance.

The Chairman of KWSUBEB, Professor Shehu Raheem Adaramaja explained today in his office that the training will last for 12 days, adding that the capacity building training will be organized for 790 teachers across the State.

Professor Adaramaja reiterated that the training will be another milestone at improving the capacity of teachers at the basic education level in the State.

He said the Kwara State Government believes that training teachers at the foundation level will ultimately translate to the optimal foundation of learners at basic education level, which is crucial to education.

The training will hold between Monday 1st September, 2025 to 12th September 2025 with focus on three separate topics; (SMASE) “core teacher’s cycle IV training, local cycle IV and step training with the board”. The selected teachers will be trained on the necessary skills to drive education.

The Chairman reiterated the State government’s commitment to investing in the professional development of teachers, adding that a similar training will be organized for another 795 teachers who have been selected across the State with focus on promoting productivity in software development, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

He explained that the training will take place in various locations, including Bishop Smith and Queen Elizabeth schools in Ilorin; and at the various LGEAs in the State.
