Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Monday inaugurated the newly rehabilitated Otte/Budo-Egba Waterworks in Asa Local Government Area to expand access to clean and safe water for residents of the communities.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Jiddah, the Governor said the successful completion of the 500,000-litre capacity tank demonstrates his administration’s firm commitment to modernising water infrastructure across the state.

“This is not just about providing clean water to our people. It is about restoring comfort, confidence, and faith in government’s capacity to deliver,” the Governor said at the commissioning ceremony in Otte town.

“As an administration, we recognise that access to safe and reliable water supply is a fundamental priority. That is why we have launched a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate and modernise water infrastructure across Kwara State. What we see in Otte and its environs today is a reflection of that vision.

“Access to clean water enhances public health by reducing waterborne diseases, supports education by saving children time spent fetching water, and ultimately improves the quality of life for our people.”

The Governor commended the contractors for their professionalism and appreciated the people of Otte and adjoining communities for their patience, cooperation, and faith in the administration’s vision. He also lauded development partners and agencies for their collaboration in making the project a success.

Governor AbdulRazaq listed other ongoing water projects, including the rehabilitation of Omu-Aran, Oyun, and Sobi Waterworks, reaffirming that access to clean water remains a fundamental right of every Kwaran and that his administration will continue to invest heavily in the sector.

Dignitaries at the event included the Chairman, Kwara House of Assembly Committee on Water Resources, Hon. Yunus Oniboki; Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade; Chairman, Asa LGA, Alhaji Shehu Yayaha Amasa; SSA to the Governor on Religion (Islam), Alhaji Ibrahim Danmeigoro; Chairman, SUBEB, Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja; Chairman, Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Abdullateef Gidado Alakawa; APC Chieftain, Abdulrahman Giwa; former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Salman Jawondo (SAN); and Daudu Afon, Alhaji Anafi Balogun.

Hon. Oniboki commended the Governor for the initiative, noting that the project will significantly reduce water scarcity in the area. Commissioner Lade urged residents to safeguard the facility against vandalism, adding that the government has invested substantial resources to ensure sustainable water supply and sanitation.

Chairman of Asa LGA, Alhaji Amasa, expressed gratitude on behalf of the communities, describing the project as both “beneficial and gigantic.”

“I know the hardship my people endured during the dry season in search of water. That challenge has now been resolved through the visionary leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. We are truly happy and thankful,” he said.

In their separate remarks, Prof. Adaramaja and Alhaji Alakawa said no part of the state has been left untouched by the administration’s development strides. They reaffirmed the unwavering support of Asa people for the state government.

Adaramaja also appealed to the Governor to consider reviving the Otte market and other essential infrastructure to complement the water project.
